What is Sound Healing?
In a sound healing session we work to bring the body and mind to a state of deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and energetic alignment. The vibrations of the instruments harmonize with the energetic body and work to release dis-harmony and dis-ease that we hold from traumatic events and high levels of toxicity of the modern lifestyle. Sound healing sessions incorporate intention setting, meditation, and the use of crystal bowls and other vibrational therapy instruments such as chimes and gongs to create the perfect environment for you to relax, release, and heal. Attendees will be laying down for the duration of the session, so little to no movement is involved. Expect to leave with a sense of peace and calm. People often relate the experience to "floating on a cloud."

Katerina Rini
Katerina is a Sound Healer and Yoga Instructor here at Riffs, as well as a Registered Hospice Nurse, and Reiki Practitioner. As a young child her greatest love was singing. Naturally talented, she was encouraged to refine this gift with vocal coaching. Katerina sang publicly in concerts, choirs and musicals. Growing up she played piano and clarinet. It wasn’t until adulthood that she decided to start learning other instruments as a means to accompany her voice. She now plays harmonium, guitar and ukulele in addition to crystal bowls, gong, drum and chimes, with a strong desire to learn more! She loves blending the vibrations of ethereal vocals, Sanskrit mantras and Spanish medicine songs with instruments to create a sensory, healing experience. Her music has naturally evolved into a spiritual practice, and Katerina works to remove herself and simply be a vessel for divine vibrations to flow freely. Many have remarked she has the “voice of an Angel,” and urged her to share her gift with a wider audience. A large part of her life’s work is to refine this gift and share it with the world. . OM
Katharine Lucas
Katharine was born in Australia and grew up, for the most part, on the East Coast in Melbourne. Music runs in her blood, along her maternal lineage, with her Great Grandfather who was a conductor and accomplished organist, her Grandmother who was a piano teacher, and her mother who is currently pursuing a second life as a pianist. Katharine played the violin for several years in school, and while she enjoyed playing the string instrument, she felt that she had not connected with HER instrument(s) yet. Through her practice of yoga, she discovered the power and the beauty of the gong, the chime, the crystal bowls, and the steel drum. Katharine teaches both Restorative and Yin Yoga, and she found that the sound healing instruments paired well with those classes. She began to incorporate playing the instruments in her classes and so enjoyed it, as did her students, that with practice, patience, dedication, and a heart full of love, she offers private sound healing, where a deeper experience of the healing power of the instruments can be felt. Through the power of vibration, she hopes to bring healing to all those with who she shares the gift of sound. OM
Malia Ah Yo
Malia is a certified sound practitioner, a gifted musician, and talented singer. She was raised around music and dance, and was immersed in the rhythm of sound and movement. Her mother, for many years, is a Kumu— a teacher of the Hawaiian culture of music and dance. Eastern philosophies have similar traditions as the Hawaiian culture does, in the sense of mind, body and spirit, which is why she feels deeply called to Sound Healing. From a young age she knew she would pursue a path that pertained to music and movement. It's no surprise that her passion for music blossomed into a career in Sound Therapy. As a young girl her inclination towards music was strictly intuitive, now she understands the technical side of the physics of sound as well as its healing influence. Amazed by this dimension of music, she loves to explore how specific frequencies paired with physical movement affect our mind and body on a cellular level. In her free time, she loves to make jewelry, dance, hula hoop as well as other flow arts, practice qi gong, spend time in nature and sing/play music! Through music, sound, movement & meditation, she supports you in invoking the healer within and encourages you to feel safe in your unique expression!
Kat Ellis
In its essence, everything is vibration; everything is sound. Music has unexpectedly revealed itself as a deeply mysterious, beautiful, and powerful teacher in Kat's life. Just as yoga serves as a bridge to the wordless, she sees music as a universal language that transcends words and touches the soul. Through sound healing, Kat aims to create a space where these vibrations can guide you inward, fostering connection, healing, and transformation.
She uses traditional sound healing instruments such as gong, chimes, and singing bowls, and incorporate unique sounds like the shruti box, handpan, kalimba, drums, and guitar. Kat also offers her voice, including vocalizations, mantras, and sacred songs from many traditions. This approach is rooted in compassion and integrity, drawing from her experiences as both a yogi and a musician to help you journey beyond the ordinary and into the heart of your true self. ॐ
Raquel Pena
Raquel is a certified Yoga instructor/ sound practitioner, artist, and dedicated musician. Growing up, Raquel played guitar and was drawn to a variety of drums and percussion instruments. She discovered her purpose & love for music by performing, singing, and dancing in college ensembles. She then fell in love with the sound of the gong during a meditative sound bath and dove deeper into ancient percussion instruments. Her fascination for sacred instrumentation has guided her to Native American ceremonies in Mexico & U.S, using drums, rattles, and flutes. In honor of her Indigenous-Mexican grandmothers, she sings in sacred sweat lodges and practices kinetic prayer through dance. Apart from her spiritual & academic music background, Raquel also studied physical therapeutic benefits through Yoga teacher trainings as well as receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Cal Poly Humboldt. Bringing together the spiritual traditions of Yoga, music wisdom, and the biological sciences, Raquel infuses her offerings with body, mind, and spirit awareness through vibrational frequencies. She aims to harmonize homeostasis by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, relaxing the brain waves, and healing on a molecular level.

What are crystal bowls?
Our bowls are made from 99.992% pure crushed quartz and heated to about 4000 degrees in a centrifugal mold. Knock-off bowls, as commonly sold for reduced prices are made of less pure materials at much lower heat, drastically reducing the healing properties of the bowls!
They are available in clear or frosted bowls in a variety of sizes, ranging from 6 to 24 inches in diameter. The bowls emit a powerful, pure resonance. The larger bowls are much more resonant, with the tone lingering longer, simply because of the size and amount of crystal. The clear bowls, somewhat more expensive, are more readily available in smaller sizes.
The size of the bowl does not necessarily determine its note, although the larger bowls sound lower octaves and notes. Each bowl is tested with digital technology to identify its sound. One will have a sense of which tone "feels" most congruent with individual needs or desires. The notes, C, D, E, F, G, A, B correspond with one’s energy centers or chakras.
Some bowls harmonize with other bowls, and when both are played simultaneously, the effect is exquisite and synergistic. We encourage buying bowls in harmonic sets; ask us to help you find the perfect combination!
