Summer Chevalier

My name is Summer Chevalier and I have been teaching Yoga Asana for 5 years.
In 2014, I graduated high school and transitioned from a very active
lifestyle, to having no physical outlets I felt connected to in my
first year at college at PLNU.
I had moved from my hometown of Santa Clarita, and I felt lost and
disconnected from my body. I struggled staying present and engaging
with my new community in OB.

Being introduced to movement based meditation in the form of Yoga
Asana impacted my body and mind in such a positive way, I decided to
dedicate my life to my practice. I left my nursing studies to
eventually explore yoga teacher training in 2019.
Since then I have enjoyed sharing one-on-one offerings with loved
ones, however I've discovered that I feel most grounded in a studio
setting, surrounded by community.

Honoring the traditional roots of our practice is very important to me
as a teacher. Honoring the Hatha, or effort, in stillness; is a common
theme in my class. As is our Pranayama, our breath, our life force; I
believe each breath is cause for celebration. You can count on me to
always leave room for organic movement and modification.

Studying the Yoga Sutras as translated by Patanjali truly grounded me
to the spiritual realm of my practice. I firmly believe that a
practice is meant to be imperfect, and that the most important Asana
is Savasana!

I like to move slowly and fluidly, building heat in the body while
maintaining organic rhythm. The integration of music into my flow is
very important to me, as I truly believe music helps keep us grounded,
and keeps our hearts and minds open and playful.

I am grateful to be a new member of the Bird Rock and OB Riffs community <3

You can also find me over at @Grl Swirl, leading the San Diego
chapter, hosting group skates holding space for women and other
marginalized skaters.
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti!

Summer Chevalier instructs the following:
  • Vinyasa
  • This is an intermediate class and yoga experience is recommended.

Vinyasa is an active breath to movement practice that includes postures to create heat, build strength and flexibility. Advanced postures may be offered, though the class remains accessible to most who have some experience with yoga. This class incorporates binds, arm balances,  backbends, and chaturangas.
